How Do I Change The Martha Within?

Let’s change the picture FROM Martha working in the kitchen for Jesus, TO Martha being a pastor’s wife working in the church for Jesus. Martha, or me, or you, are diligently busy, busy, busy doing all the legitimate things that need to be done for Jesus. When we hear Him say, ‘Leave all that and come spend some time with Me’. We respond all too often, ‘But, but, but……...’

Distraction from Jesus is a reality of life. Paul stated it as fact in 1 Cor 7:34 that marriage (and motherhood) are in themselves a distraction from undistracted devotion to God.

So how do I change the Martha within?

• Apologise to God for at times ignoring, or even forgetting all about Him. Turn over the page to a new day and commence again.

Still the devil’s condemning voice that will continually tell you that you are not spending enough time with God.

• Include God in your normal daily routine. Ease the pressure from trying to find a lengthy God time in your day. For example, talk to Him in the shower, while ironing or driving.

How Do I Change The Martha Within

• Acknowledge the availability of quantity time with God very much depends on your life season. Eg Before children and empty nest women have considerably more time in comparison with women who are 24/7 mothering.

Put memory igniters into place to remind you to connect with God. Eg. Diarize time; set the alarm on your phone; put a note on the bathroom mirror or your work desk; pray while waiting for the kettle to boil.

Give yourself permission to stop, stop, stop, and spend time with God.
